Easter History and Background
Easter is one of the holiest days in the Christian faith. This is the day Jesus was raised from the
dead. No other religion has a leader that rose from the dead. Easter is the culmination of the Lenten season that
begins on Ash Wednesday.
Easter has also become a secular holiday celebrated with the arrival of the Easter bunny. Children
are excited on Easter morning to come down from bed and to hopefully find a basket hidden by the Easter bunny full of candy
and toys. Eggs are a symbol of rebirth and are decorated by many people as part of the holiday. Many people celebrate
by having Easter egg hunts with plastic eggs full of money or candy!
The date of Easter changes each year. This year, Easter falls on April 8, 2007.
